A vegetarian, yeast-free, spelt pizza

posted on August 18, 2010 in Home Brewing Recipes

My motivation for creating this very unorthodox homemade spelt, veggie pizza was my desire to bring more vegetarian dishes into our kitchen. Added to this, I wanted to use the spelt flour I’d bought at the bulk store (where I refill all my essentials like oatmeal, dried beans, nuts, paprika, peppercorns, etc). The final motivation for my entirely invented pizza pie recipe was my recent interest in making a dough without industrial yeast. See my video on the breadstore Barcelona Reykjavik: www.faircompanies.com for more on using a ferment (like a sourdough) instead of a yeast in order to promote the growth of beneficial probiotics in our foods. In this video, I, with some help from my 2-year-old daughter, show you how we make our yeast-free, spelt, vegetarian pizza in just about 45 minutes (including cook time).

Recipes from cake mixes #13: Root Beer Butter Pecan Cake

posted on August 17, 2010 in Home Brewing Recipes

This is a variation on a cake I found in this video: www.youtube.com I used Butter Pecan mix instead of the strawberry cake and Root Beer instead of strawberry soda. I also increased the amount of glaze by 1/2. A super moist sweet cake with just a hint of root beer flavour. Music by: Jason Shaw www.youtube.com Jason Shaw@audionautix.com

It’s an industry standard. Check out our discussion forums for more info on Starsan ( www.simplehomebrewing.com/discussion/ ) I’m also giving a demonstration of my new forced carbonation system. This is a LOW COMMITMENT method of brewing that you can brew INDOORS on your STOVE TOP! No mashing or fancy tools required! This is meant to REPLACE any of the tin can or Mr. Beer methods of brewing you might be getting sold on. BE SMART! Do NOT waste money on these kits! Here we show you how to decipher a recipe, and what you can replace in the recipe. Do NOT get sold on pre-packaged kits that will turn out poor beer! Do NOT get sold on promises of ‘beer in 6 days!’ Do NOT listen to the guy who’s been brewing for 40 years and ‘never had a problem’ and ‘it tastes great!’. Do NOT get sold on people trying to ’sell’ you things or have ultimate motives. And what ever you do, do NOT buy any Cooper’s beer brewing products regardless of who you see online advertising for them. It is money down the drain. Take it from someone who got suckered in himself.
